European Parliament sends series of tough questions to Lord Hill

The European Parliament´s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) has sent a list of written queries to Lord Hill, commissioner-designate for EU financial market affairs. These should be answered before a possible next exchange of views with the parliament planned for the coming Monday.

Sven Giegold, Greens/EFA economic and finance spokesperson, commented:

“Lord Hill owes the parliament explanations on many issues. He could or did not want to explain his plans for our financial system. It is now time for him to produce convincing answers. In particular, I expect Lord Hill to publicise the names of financial actors for which he or his company Quiller Consultants worked as a lobbyist. So far, Hill has talked a lot about transparency but has not delivered on it. We also want to know what new measures he plans against massive indirect subsidies for too-big-to-fail banks. Lastly, Greens have ensured that Hill will have to explain how he wants to protect small, stable financial companies from excessive regulatory burden.
