Expert consultation on FinTech: the influence of technology on the future of the financial sector

The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) of the European Parliament is currently working on an initiative report on FinTech: the influence of technology on the future of the financial sector.

FinTech can effectively contribute to financial inclusion by enabling access to high-level services for those that could not afford them before. Equally, Fintech poses challenges to market participants, supervision and regulation. However, barriers to market access should not hamper the application of new technologies in financial services. At the same time, it is crucial to achieve a consistent regulatory and supervisory framework, in which consumer and data protection play a key role. The initiative report of the European Parliament is a good opportunity to elaborate proposals on the requirements, potential and limits of Fintech.
