Invitation – Tax evasion and tax competition in football – Hearing in the Panama Inquiry Committee next week

Dear correspondents,

Even the splendid game of football is not free from tax scandals. As you will be aware, there are a number of ongoing investigations into the tax practices of stars like Ronaldo and Messi. There is also unfair tax competition between football clubs across Europe. The Panama Inquiry Committee in the European Parliament has therefore invited representatives of FIFA, UEFA and others, to discuss the issue and possible solutions to the problem of tax dodging in football.

The first panel on football leaks will be followed by a panel on the tax practices of German company BASF. The Greens/EFA Group has prepared a study on corporate tax avoidance.
