POSTPONED – Commission fails to meet deadline for Selmayr Questionnaire

Just now the Coordinators of the CONT Committee have been informed that the Commission will not be meeting the deadline set for today 3pm to reply to our 130 questions regarding the appointment of Martin Selmayr as Secretary-General of the European Commission. A reply is expected to be send over the weekend.

Here the E-Mail text:

“Dear Coordinators,

We have been informed by the Commission that it is unlikely they would be able to meet the deadline of today, 23 March, 15.00 , they will send the replies to the questionnaire most likely over the weekend.

As soon as the replies reach CONT Secretariat, we will circulate them to all CONT members, provided that  there are no confidential parts that cannot be disclosed.”

The next steps concerning SelmayrGate are:

On Monday 26th March (3pm) we will be voting on the discharge of “EU genral budget – of the Commission (2016), which we in our “five point plan” asked to be postponed until the Selmayr case is resolved. The discharge of Commission’s budget should be postponed from the Plenary in April to a later date (probably October) that allows for scrutiny of all documents that allow Parliament to fully understand.

On Tuesday, 27th March the debate on the appointment of the Secretary-General of the European Commission will take place in an open hearing with Günther Oettinger. EPP, S&D and ALDE voted against an invitation of Jean-Claude Juncker as it was demanded by Greens, ECR, EFDD and GUE.
